DIATOMACEOUS EARTH

Used to kill and prevent worms in the birds digestive tract, D-Earth is a non-toxic, natural product made from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life called Diatoms. It’s crushed into a fine powder that would resemble or look like broken glass if you looked at it through a microscope. While it is deadly to insects and worms it is harmless to warm blooded animals, birds and fish. When these microscopically sharp edges come into contact with insects and parasites, it pierces their protective cover and they soon die. It literally shreds the parasite and even their larvae. This makes Diatomaceous Earth an excellent natural control product with no mechanical or chemical damage to the birds tissue. It can also be used to control external pests or parasites.

While we offer diatomaceous earth for parasite control for our birds it has other notable qualities and benefits. First it offers a number of minerals and trace minerals, it reduces flies around the loft by destroying their larvae and even the fly itself when it ingests the material, and there is some evidence that it firms the bird’s droppings.

Just a word of caution, we sell only the feed grade diatomaceous earth. There is a difference. Most of the product on the general market is used or intended for purposes other than animal feed. It doesn’t always have the extra sharp edges needed to properly control parasites. Also some of the less expensive product sold contains hard metals that can be harmful to our birds. Wherever you buy the product for your birds, be sure it’s labeled as a “feed grade” diatomaceous earth. We only sell the feed grade material.

HOW TO USE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH:
The product is easy to use. Just add it to the grit bowl or gently sprinkle a small amount on the birds' feed each day.

For 2 or 3 lbs of feed, mix in about one well-rounded teaspoon.
For 10lbs (or 2 gallons) of feed, use one well-rounded tablespoon.

Adjust to meet your needs.

(Diatomaceous Earth is a fine powder, very light in weight. A 2 lb package equates to almost a full gallon)
